Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, 'Back together again' means new music for us

JT teases track with Timbaland

September 29, 2020

“Back together again,” can only mean one thing, especially when it involves Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. We feel “Justified” to say that they’re indeed, bringing sexy back, or at least that’s what we expect them to do.

Justin used those words, along with a prayer hands emoji to caption a video of the two bopping their heads to a funky instrumental track, that really sent us back to 2006, the era of Future Sex/Love Sounds.

In the short video tease, Timbo isn’t shy about hyping up his work, shouting out, ”that’s that beat!” He even posted the same video on his own Twitter account with a similar caption, "We back!!!!!!”

JT, who has reportedly welcomed his second child with wife Jessica Biel, recently shared about his longtime admiration for Timbaland during and interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. Sharing his Essentials Playlist, Justin took a look back to the beginning of his 20 year career, he revealed that hearing Missy Elliott's 1997 debut, Supa Dupa Fly, produced by Timbaland, gave him a "prophecy" about what was in store.

Justin was just a teenager at the time, about to embark on the journey to super stardom with a little band known as *NSYNC. “Supa Dupa Fly was the thing for me.” He recalled, and recalled that he told his mother, “I will work with that man one day. I will work with him one day if it's the last thing I do.” By that man, JT obviously meant Timbaland.

Justin went on, ”and of course, I was 14, and just like... I probably could have said anything at that point and believed it.... We had met a little bit. He really liked 'It's Gonna Be Me,' actually. And we met him outside a studio one time and I was kind of realizing that maybe it wasn't going to be possible.” Possible it was indeed.

Earlier this year, JT confirmed that he's been in the studio with Timbo working on his upcoming follow-up to 2018's Man of the Woods, also mentioning some other chart topping producers including Kaytranada and Hit-Boy and his other frequent collaborators Danja and Rob Knox.

Even though we were only given a few bars, that along with this duo’s track record we have some high expectations of what’s to come. Now the only thing in question is when, no dates or details have been confirmed as of yet.
