Chick-fil-A Releases Dine-In, Drive-Thru Safety Guidelines as Locations Reopen

Restaurants and fast-food chains nationwide are beginning to re-open following a brief shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But with the novel virus still looming, many establishments are embracing new rules and guidelines.

On Friday, Chick-fil-A announced that most locations will continue serving customers via drive-thru and to-go services, which is how they’ve managed to stay open amidst the pandemic.

The chain revealed that the “Safe Service” guidelines will vary by state as many are in different phases of reopening, but will encompass drive-thru, carry-out or dine-in service.

"'Safe Service' is our unwavering commitment to safety and the highest operating standards to protect the health and well-being of our Guests and Team Members. Our Food Safety and Customer Experience teams are working with local franchise Operators to ensure safety measures not only protect Guests and restaurant teams, but also uphold the restaurant experience guests have come to know and expect from Chick-fil-A," the restaurant chain wrote in a blog post.

If the dine-in is open, customers will be reminded to maintain social distancing through signage posted throughout the store.

Some tables may be blocked off to adhere to the 6-feet apart rule. There may also be a limit on how many patrons are allowed inside at one time.

If possible, outdoor seating will be encouraged.

Inside the store, plexiglass shields have been installed on counters. Payments through the app are encouraged to limit points of contact.

The chain will refrain from using reusable trays, opting for to-go bags instead. Napkins and condiments will not be offered in communal areas, while drink refills are temporarily suspended. All high-touch surfaces will be disinfected and wiped down every 30 minutes.

Staff will undergo temperature checks at the beginning of each shift and will be required to wear face masks.

Social distancing measures also apply to drive-thru and to-go orders. Contactless payment methods like paying through the app are encouraged. Otherwise, a customer will have to swipe their own credit or debit card.

If cash is to be used, it will need to be placed in a bin that will be returned to the customer with change

Many locations are also offering curbside pick-up for orders placed through the mobile app. Customers can notify employees that they’ve arrived by typing, “I’m here,” in the app. The order will be brought out to the customer's car.

And to ensure safety and proper hygiene, team member hand washing stations have also been installed outside.
