Pop stars like Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have had their fair share of encounters with Internet trolls, and both have either (temporarily) quit or threatened to quit social media. But Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei Hamilton isn’t talking a big game when she says she’s done with Twitter and the endlessly racist messages she gets. The singer decided to quit the social media app Saturday (August 6).

It looks like her account will stay open (but won’t be active) because Kordei posted her goodbye message to fans on Twitter. She tweeted two screenshots explaining her decision to stop using the app to stay in touch with fans (via Billboard).

“Over the past four years of being in the public eye I’ve learned to grow a thick skin to critics and those who may not like me,” she wrote. Kordei said things have escalated this past week, though, and she experienced a new level of racial bullying with pictures and messages “so horrific and racially charged that I can’t subject myself any longer to the hate.”

She added at the end, “I am the keeper of my heart and I’m not meant for everyone to understand but you can respect me while trying to.”

Can we get a mic drop?
