#OnTheList with Xtine is a weekly feature from Fresh 102.7’s Christine Richie that will be highlighting all things music and more, from her favorite emerging artists, top female vocalists, and much, much more!

Tom Odell is a British singer/songwriter. His love for music started early and he studied at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. He’s heavily influenced by great songwriters like Elton John, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan which is clear when you hear his thoughtful and emotional lyrics.

Odell has enjoyed success in the UK and, at 21, won the Critics Choice award at the 2012 Brit Awards. His debut album, Long Way Down, went straight to #1 in the UK. He’s supported a few huge icons on tour: Elton John – who’s a fan of his – Billy Joel, and the Rolling Stones. After spending a few years touring, he took some time off until he felt ready to start working on his next album, Wrong Crowd. He’s now promoting the album and just starting to make an impression in the U.S.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Odell after enjoying his music for a long time. You may have noticed a song or two of is pop up on other lists of mine. He is absolutely charming and lovely.

While he was getting ready to perform a free show in Madison Square Park, we talked about his current obsession with the TV show The West Wing. After I chastised him for not having Shake Shack while he was here, he gave me a list of his favorite things. He took this list very seriously and worked on it for awhile.

I was very excited to finally see him perform live and I have to say, he completely knocked me out. He may be soft spoken in person, but on stage he comes alive. He’s quite a showman and his voice is so pure and powerful. I was really surprised and recommend you see him when he comes to Webster Hall on October 5th. While you’re waiting for October to roll around, listen to his new album Wrong Crowd!
