A conversation about the BET Awards got weird.

By Hayden Wright

During an interview about his appearance at the BET Awards, Akon shared some views on men and women. In short, he claims that women just don’t understand men well enough to “dominate” them in society. The dialogue began when an interviewer from Hollywood Today Live asked Akon to clarify his 2013 statement that men, “natural breeders,” were “put on this earth to breed.”

“Why is it that every woman in the world is going through the exact same problem with a man?” he riddled. “Just think about it. It’s not a coincidence, it’s just who we are. I always believed that if women took the time to understand men, you literally would run the world. The only reason why men are dominant is because we know more about women than women know about men.”

Akon offered some dodgy math to support his statement.

“Let’s think about it. [Men] are outnumbered 15 to 1,” he said. “[Women] are clearly smarter than we are, and you execute a lot quicker and faster more than we do. So how is it that we run the world?”

Then Akon presented an analogy about male and female lions: Male lions, he claims, prowl the Savannah in search of other females while their mates stay home with their cubs. “She knows her role, the guy knows his role, and that’s their understanding.”
