It seems like a match made in heaven. Daughtry has been a fixture on the rock and adult contemporary circuit since the release of the group’s self-titled debut album in 2006, and the Goo Goo Dolls have been a mainstay for even longer, thanks to hits like “Iris” and “Slide,” which are still getting spins to this day.

Strangely, though, 2014 marks the first time the two bands have gone out on tour together — and frankly, frontman Chris Daughtry doesn’t know why a co-headlining gig took this long.

“We’ve done shows together with the Goo Goo Dolls back in the day when our first record came out,” Daughtry told “We’ve actually talked about touring for probably every year since, and we’ve just never been able to line up our schedules. Not sure why it took so long. It definitely makes sense.”

The two bands are joined by the Plain White T’s for an extensive spring and summer tour this year. The trek kicked off last week in Wallingford, Conn., and currently runs through August (see all upcoming dates below).

The tour comes at a time when Daughtry has not only an album (2013’s Baptized) but also a new single to promote. Released last month, “Battleships” is the five-piece group’s second single off Baptized — though, originally, Chris Daughtry wanted it as the first new tune audiences would hear from the album.
