UK Band Rixton Talk New-found Success with Jim & Kim

Having started only two years ago across the pond, U.K. band Rixton, consisting of Jake Roche, Charley Bagnall, Lewi Morgan and Danny Wilkin, have transformed from small town group to a huge success in such a short amount of time.

Their single “Me and My Broken Heart” was released in March 2014, along with their Me and My Broken Heart EP. Rixton stopped by the Fresh 102.7 studios to discuss their relationship with super-manager Scooter Braun, their recent rise to transatlantic fame and how they are dealing with all of the craziness with Jim & Kim.

After being signed to School Boy Records by the renowned Scooter Braun (who has also signed artists such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande), Rixton recently caught their break in the United States with their first, and latest single.

Lead singer Jake Roche described getting his first call from Scooter Braun as, “very strange and surreal.”

“A few years before that obviously we were doing the pubs and the clubs and we were getting changed in like restrooms and yeah it was very, very strange and for someone like that to just call out of the blue, we just couldn’t believe it,” said Roche. “We still kind of don’t believe it really.”

Roche was so surprised by the phone call that he initially hung up on Braun.

“He called me and like I’ve never really had a phone call from America before and I was just like ‘what is this number?’” said Roche. “So I just hung up. He said ‘Hey, this is Scooter Braun’ and I was like whatever. He called back and it was.”

When Roche broke the news to the rest of the members that Braun wanted to meet with them, they were overjoyed.

“He came in the room just like tears in his eyes, emotional like and told us and it was kind of like weirdly overwhelming and like we all just rang our parents, first thing we did,” said drummer Lewi Morgan.

Although they write their own songs and play their own instruments, the members of Rixton are indifferent with potentially being called a “boyband.”

“The boyband thing is funny because when we first originally started getting called that we’d get kind of uptight and you know really quite annoyed,” said Roche.

Jokingly, he added, “Then we realized boybands get a lot of women, money, fast cars, fame.”

“Now people have started seeing us live and seeing us perform more and once they you know hear the EP or album they change their mind which is great for us but you know the fact people are talking about us that’s enough for us really,” said Roche.

Rixton’s kicks off their upcoming North American tour, called The Broken Heart Tour, on July 30 in Boston, traveling throughout the United States until the final show on August 23 in Los Angeles. Be sure to catch the guys in NYC on August 2nd at Irving Plaza.
