How Did the Tree in Their Yard Become the Most Famous Tree in the Nation?

Last year when we talked to the owner of the tree he told us someone from Rockefeller Center drove by his house and spotted his tree… then they knocked on the door to ask him about it. Kind of a tree stalker.

But this year, John Vergoshe from Shelton, Connecticut told us he entered the family’s 76-foot, 12-ton Norway Spruce into the running on the Rockefeller Center Christmas website – but only after some encouragement (a lot of encouragement) from his lovely wife. And this year it will be the tree that signals the beginning of the holidays for a whole nation!!

So where did that tree come from? Well, it was once a family Christmas tree before being replanted in the yard to grow tall enough to grace the spot in front of Prometheus this year. But it wasn’t easy for the Vergoshe family – who will be there at the tree lighting tonight – to let their tree go.

We talked to John Vergoshe about his family’s moment this morning…
