GBK, The Fashion Group International, and legendary New York fashion designer, Patricia Field hosted a New York Fashion Week kick- off party to benefit the LIM Fashion Education Foundation, which is an independent 501 c3 non-profit dedicated to raising funds for student scholarships and educational enhancements and has awarded more than 1 million dollars in scholarships based on merit, since 1979.
Held across from Lincoln Center at the Empire Hotel, the soiree spotlighted the Foundation and Ms. Field, who surrounded by tons of photographers and media, not only talked about her personal colorful style, but also about the LIM Foundation and how impactful it has been to the New York Community.
LIM representative, Michael Palladino who has known the designer for many years, expressed his excitement that the LIM Fashion Education Foundation was being recognized in this way. He stated that he felt the most important part of what the Foundation and school does is “make it all about the students” and that their goal is to “bring everyone in from all nationalities”, and also ensure that the LIM Foundation gets the word out to these students that although the design business is fun, it is still a business. He also expressed the need to assuage the fears of the parents who send their kids to New York and abroad to study, that it’s not just a fly by night venture, but a rewarding meaningful (and of course fashionable) business with a value not only to the New York community but to the entire world.

The GBK Luxury Style lounge hosts events all over the world that always maintains a charitable element and features a variety of products and the hottest celebs to bring awareness to various causes. This year’s sponsors included Pilot Pen and Sparkling Hill Resort, and Rivé offered glammed up water bottles designed by none other than Patricia Field! Ultra cool and chic for a cause!
Another ultra cool and chic kick-off event was the first ever Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week show by Mark and Estel featuring one of the best takeaways ever: A Maxell Smart type wristlet bearing an image of the singing designers that opened up to contain a USB drive featuring all their fresh looks – cool and creative. Jimon-magazine’s editor visiting from LA remarked that he initially thought they were t-shirt designers, but the duo’s New World Collection “blew him away”. New and innovative designers who show at New York Fashion Week help to make it such an important happening every year and generates millions of dollars in revenue for the city of New York.
