Towards the end of his tenure as the lead singer of seminal ‘90s punk band Pennywise, Jim Lindberg began to realize how growing up and being a father was often incongruous with touring the world singing songs like “F— Authority.” He went on to turn his insights into a book, the 2007 release Punk Rock Dad, which was eventually made into a documentary film entitled The Other F Word that also explored the lives of fellow punk rock dads like Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Everclear frontman Art Alexakis.
Now, according to Comingsoon.net, How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel is behind the move to turn The Other F Word into a full-length feature film comedy, selling the idea to Fox after a studio bidding war on the project, which Segel will star in.
“The thing about being a dad is, you leave your cool at the door,” Lindberg told the L.A. Times in an interview about the documentary film. “Dads are goofy. When we first had kids, we had our white minivan and it had Britney Spears stickers all over it. I just didn’t care. You’re not fooling anyone. You’re not cool anymore. The way to be cool is to be a good parent.”
When he’s not being a good parent to his three daughters, Lindberg fronts a new band, The Black Pacific, featuring Marc Orrell formerly of the Dropkick Murphys. The band’s self-titled debut was released in 2010.
