Chris Daughtry and Brian Craddock of the band Daughtry recently stopped by the Fresh 102.7/New York studios and spoke about their newfound friendship with Aerosmith front man and outspoken American Idol judge, Steven Tyler.
“We’re on a texting basis now, Chris says. We hung out with him before we played on the show about a month ago. You never know what it’s going to be like… he’s Steven Tyler, he meets a lot of people. He invites us into his dressing room and wouldn’t let us leave!”
Given Tyler’s unique style and attitude to match, we can all imagine what that room looks like.
Guitarist Brian Craddock revealed during the interview that he has his own recording studio, called “The Cat Room” (@TheCatRoom on Twitter), a name which conjures up images of debauchery for most listeners, but actually he just likes his cats.
“[Tyler’s dressing room] looks like the cat room you probably imagined… all these interesting mannequins. Anyway, he invites us in and plays us the entire new Aerosmith album. He was really proud of it and wanted us to hear it. We were thinking one song. Nope! All of them!”
Brian recalls one of the speakers of the PA system Steven had hooked up to his computer being broken and Steven asking him to fix it because in order to get the full affect of the album, they had to hear it through both speakers. Steven was saddened when they couldn’t get the other one to work, but regardless of the malfunction, the guys absolutely loved the new recording and thought it sounded just like “’70s Aerosmith.”
Chris went on to explain that Tyler is one of the most genuine people he’s met in the industry. “He just breathes what he does.”
