Musician Lenny Kravitz recently told Rolling Stone that before music became his passion, he was an actor. Though acting hasn’t been his priority, he never completely ruled out a career in film.

“I always figured it would come back into my life,” Kravitz said. “I was an actor when I was a kid. When I realized music was my thing, I just gave it up. I put blinders on, just focused on music. It’s come back now and I really am enjoying it.”

Kravitz jumped back into acting in 2009 with Precious, his first feature film, in his portrayal of Nurse John. Next month, Kravitz returns to the big screen as Cinna in The Hunger Games.

He took on the role after meeting director Gary Ross and reading the first book of author Suzanne Collins’ successful trilogy. Kravitz said he thought it was “really good storytelling.”

“I’m very much into stories. The character was interesting. I like Gary’s previous work. And I said, Yeah, let’s go.”

Kravitz just finished his US tour in Miami where he thanked fans on Twitter, saying “Let love rule” after sharing a photo with a special backstage guest.

Last month, Kravitz spoke with about his upcoming release, Negrophilia. He said the almost completed album’s music is “very funky, very, very raw. Black and White America was very produced. Although it’s all natural and organic, it’s a very produced record. That’s the mode I was in at that time. But (Negrophilia) is a very raw, jagged-edged album.”

Due in theaters March 23, of The Hunger Games, Kravitz said he loves “using different mediums to express myself.”

“It’s nice to have different things to do, creatively. I’ve always loved these ‘renaissance artists,’ as they call them, and I hope I can be seen as one of them.”
