Louis Armstrong was no fool. He understood that his unique voice, five-mile smile and adept talent for vaudeville would make him a wealthy pop star during his lifetime. Here’s one you don’t hear too often.
This version rolls at the end of Eddie Murphy‘s version of Dr. Doolittle, the update of the 1967 film that starred Rex Harrison, Samantha Eggar and Anthony Newley.
It was Harrison and Polynesia (played by voice actress Ginny Tyler) who sang this Leslie Bricusse tune in the original. Like “Hello Dolly,” it’s pure camp but worth a listen once in a while.
