I’ve been to many weddings… always the bridesmaid and never the bride… and planned one of my own that didn’t quite make it to the altar, but I have never been to a “suits and boots” wedding!

Have you ever heard of that?

I guess it’s just not a New York City thing. But Thanksgiving weekend I have been invited to a “Suits and Boots” wedding in Dallas and I have absolutely no idea what that means or what to wear. I’m a city girl and am completely lost when it comes to cowboy boots..and, frankly, am a bit appalled that someone would pair them with a suit!

So we got together two experts to guide me…

Our experts were Maxwell from Western Spirit here in NYC and Marlon from Pink’s Western Wear in Dallas, Texas…and we wanted to see what advice they would each give about what I should wear.

And Emily called to tell us about the Suits and Boots wedding she attended…

Have YOU ever been to one of these shindigs? Tell us all about it in the comments section below!

When I read writings like this I am reminded how far some of the attiudes and how far the rural culture is from the city cultures. This writer freely admits that she is from a city background, but she does not have to, to anyone from a rural or ranching area. Not only would you not have to put it on the invitation, but, no one-I repeat no one, would think anything of wearing a suit, male or female, and cowboy boots to any function including a wedding. Dressed up in rural areas is getting out your suit, tie, dress boots, and dress cowboy hat. The gap in culture is never more defined that by dress, it is the attitudes about a different way of dress that amazes me. While I would never wear a suit without boots I understand those that do not choose to dress this way. That’s why they serve 31 flavors of ice cream at Baskin Robbins.

The underlying message in your article is that somehow wearing boots with suit is “fringe” when it is the norm in many, many areas of the USA. Get out more, live experience, before writing. If not or you are as young and tight minded as you appear to be in ths article, consider that your opinions are very silly and extremely immature.
