It looks like New York has a new protector, well in comic book form that is. No one ever said that you had to be real to be a celebrity and Miles Morales is about to learn that.

Ever since Peter Parker died in “Ultimate Spider-Man” No. 160, Spidey fans have been wondering what was going to happen to the beloved comic book series. Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis has insisted that a new hero would fill Parker’s tights.

In an effort to keep up with the times and reflect the actual population of New York, Morales is of mixed-race, the Brooklyn teenager is half-black and half-Hispanic.

Like his predecessor, Miles is a wee bit on the geeky side, but he differs in that both of his parents are still living, and will play a part in the new series. Bedis continued to discuss the differences between his heroes with the Huffington Post, “He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view. It’s Peter Parker’s death that inspires this kid to step up.”

“Ultimate Fallout” No. 4, Miles’ premiere issue is hitting stands today.

Is the world ready for a new, multi-cultured Spider-Man?
