Philadelphia singer-songwriter [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Christina Perri[/lastfm] is a firm believer in the power of love, despite a failed marriage at the age of 24. After a life-changing performance of the break-up anthem “Jar of Hearts” on the television show So You Think You Can Dance, Perri connected with viewers and audience members and was catapulted into the public eye.

“Jar of Hearts” finds good company with the other twelve candid songs on Perri’s debut release Lovestrong. With the title reportedly reflecting how Perri feels today, she says that the subject of love is one that keeps her songwriting skills sharp: “Writing about love is just who I am. I’ve tried to write about other things, but ultimately this is what comes out of me.” As time progressed, Perri continued to pursue her dream of music, despite not having any concrete evidence of musical success or longevity. To her astonishment, “Jar of Hearts” went on to sell a million downloads and land Perri, who was then working as a restaurant manager in Beverly Hills, a deal with Atlantic Records. “Jar of Hearts” later landed at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on Amazon’s digital singles chart, and has since sold an additional 200,000 downloads in only three weeks.

Perri’s second single, “Arms,” is an acoustic guitar-led tune that allows Perri to find personal resolution: “Your heart wants to be loved, but your head is telling you that you shouldn’t be with that person,” Perri shares. “The song is about that struggle and finally giving in and letting love win.”
