wizard Whats Fresh Around Town Friday, April 16th

If you’re looking for things to do outside this weekend, there are a ton of events in the city and, if you’re looking to go “over the rainbow,” we’ve got that as well!

1. New Yorkers of all ages are invited to go over the rainbow to Lincoln Center TODAY for a free staged reading of “The Wizard of Oz” at Bruno Walter Auditorium in the Library of the Performing Arts. This one-hour live stage version features all the great songs from the classic film musical. Seating is limited and it starts at 1pm.

2. Saturday is the 3rd annual Street Games, bringing back classic street games from the ’60s and ’70s and reintroducing them to a whole new generation! Pogo sticks, double-dutch, hula hoops, and yo-yos are just some of the activities that you and your family can try out!  It’s absolutely free and happening in Thomas Jefferson Park at 114th street from 11 to 4.

3. On Sunday, the City Parks Foundation hosts the annual Run for the Parks. Held in Central Park, it’s a 4 mile run while kids race, followed by a post-race reception for runners and spectators. The race will draw over 7,500 runners and 200 kids, and is considered the kick off of the New York City running season.   Run for the Parks’ proceeds support free programs in parks throughout the five boroughs.  That starts at 8am.

4. Sunday is the last skate of the season at Rockefeller Center Ice Skating Rink.  So make sure you get there before 10pm on Sunday night to get your skate on!

5. And in sports, the Yankees have home games vs. Texas Rangers all weekend long.

And remember to check us out every day at 9:30 to find out what’s Fresh around town.
